This is my personal ADHD Wiki from researching researchers.
I use this to refresh myself and share it with others. It’s rooted in science but focused on living with ADHD—how it affects you, tips to manage it, and ways to make the most of your amazing brain without letting it run wild. ADHD is a superpower, but like any superhero, if not handled well, it can do as much harm as good.
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) affects people in many ways.
Messengers, bridges and gates.
- ADHD is a lack of dopamine.
- Why do ADHD people have a lack of dopamine?
- My psychiatrist described it like this.
This affects their behaviour in ways they may not even understand and is different for all.
- They can be overwhelmed by their senses. Imagine having all your receptors on highly sensitivity looking for something interesting. Your hearing is trying to pick up on conversations all around you. Lights are brighter, heat is hotter. After a while you would probably start to get a little grumpy. You are over stimulated. ADHD people can be super sensitive to their environment.
- Next time the ADHD person in your life isn’t reacting in a good way think about the environment. Too hot, too much noise, too much talking. They are overwhelmed. Remove senses. Go somewhere quiet. Cool down. Fewer people. Calm.
- ADHD people are constantly told they are not doing something correctly. This is on top of a negative inner dialogue telling them they are under achieving, in capable or useless.
This also explains many ADHD people sleep a great deal or are often tired. They are exhausted just from an ordinary day for most people.
